Spider-Man film success drives massive gaming sales and box office growth

The release of the film ‘Spider-Man: Rebirth’ has triggered a significant surge in both cinematic and gaming revenue. Globally, the film's box office has surpassed $1.6 billion, which has directly boosted sales for Sony’s ‘Marvel Spider-Man 2’ video game. On PS5 and PC, the game saw an additional 316,000 units sold, generating approximately 350 million TWD in revenue. Daily sales for the game on PS5 rose to nearly 15,000 units, more than doubling previous promotional averages.

Total global sales for ‘Marvel Spider-Man 2’ have now exceeded 18.2 million units, with total revenue surpassing $1.2 billion. To capitalize on the film's success, developer Insomniac Games released a PSSR update for PS5 Pro and a ‘Fresh Start’ cosmetic item. The synergy between the media is reinforced by the fact that the film’s combat choreography was inspired by the game’s mechanics.

In the Chinese market, the summer film season has surpassed 10 billion RMB in total box office revenue. ‘Spider-Man: Rebirth’ ranks as the third highest-grossing film in this period within mainland China, earning 1.42 billion RMB. The overall summer market has seen a 3.2% year-on-year increase in total box office, driven by a rise in viewership despite a slight decrease in average ticket prices.
