Spider-Noir cinematographer utilizes dual black-and-white and color formats

The streaming seriesSpider-Noir’, starring Nicolas Cage, features a unique dual-format visual approach. Available on MGM+ and Prime Video, the show offers both a black-and-white version and a color version titled ‘Tru-Hue Full Color’.

The black-and-white format emphasizes the shadows characteristic of film noir, while the color version utilizes a bold, jazzy aesthetic inspired by Technicolor films. Cinematographer Darran Tiernan managed this hyper-specific process, which evolved from an initial plan to shoot exclusively in black and white after a decision was made to produce a color version simultaneously.
