Italy faces diverse social tensions over housing and urban management

Various regions in Italy are experiencing social and administrative tensions regarding housing, urban decay, and public space management. In Rome, activists gathered at the former Inpdap plant to advocate for housing rights and propose a popular law to counter government housing plans. Meanwhile, in Pozzuoli, displaced residents from ACER public housing are protesting near Naples, claiming they have been left without alternative accommodation since July earthquakes.

Efforts to manage abandoned properties and urban maintenance are also surfacing. In Ferrara, authorities have permanently sealed an abandoned building in the Doro district to prevent further illegal occupations. In Ancona, renovation work has begun on the former Maggini elementary school to convert it into a residence.

Other localized issues include disputes over public greenery in Molfetta, cleaning efforts in Roseto degli Abruzzi, and safety concerns regarding a building with a collapsing roof in Reggio Calabria. Additionally, in Treviso, the Questore issued 18 expulsion orders following clashes between protesters and police at Park dal Negro in July.
