Spinal pain increases during autumn transitions

Spinal discomfort, specifically in the back and neck, tends to increase during the autumn season. This trend is driven by a combination of factors, including the transition from summer relaxation to sedentary office work and increased physical activity in gyms.

In Greece, September is a peak month for patients seeking treatment for spinal issues. While temperature drops are a common trigger in colder climates, experts note that in Greece, fluctuations in atmospheric (barometric) pressure and humidity play a more significant role in exacerbating pain.

Ioannis Polythodorakis, Director of the 4th Neurosurgical Department at Errikos Dyanan Hospital and former President of the World Spine Society, highlights that these environmental changes can cause slight swelling in soft tissues, contributing to discomfort.
