Spintex Knights face $30,000 debt after BAL qualification

Ghanaian basketball champions Spintex Knights have returned to Ghana after being stranded in Libya due to unpaid travel obligations. Despite successfully qualifying for the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Elite 16 stage by winning all three matches in the Division West qualifiers, the club is facing a significant financial crisis.

Co-founder Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi reported that the team requires approximately $30,000 to cover flight tickets and an additional $3,000 for visa-on-arrival charges, totaling roughly $33,000 in debt. While individual donations helped settle some visa fees, the club still lacks the necessary funding to participate in the upcoming Elite 16 tournament, scheduled for November 10–15 in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The club has issued an urgent appeal to corporate organizations and the public for financial support to ensure they can compete in the next phase of the continental competition.
