Spiridon Mutu, a former mathematics and informatics teacher, died on 30 July 2026 at the age of 75. The death was announced by his daughter Laura Mutu, Adrian Mutu’s sister, in a post on social media. Spiridon had been hospitalized in Bucharest for several days before his passing.

The family scheduled the funeral for Saturday, 1 August 2026, with a religious service at 11:30 a.m. in Biserica Sf. Ilie Tesviteanul, Voluntari, followed by burial at Cimitirul Sf. Ilie in the same town. Laura’s message read, “Cu o durere greu de spus în cuvinte, vă anunț că tatăl meu a plecat dintre noi…”.

Adrian Mutu, Romania’s joint‑top scorer with 35 international goals, is also mourning the loss of his mother, Rodica, who died in December 2023. The death has prompted condolences from fans and former teammates across the Romanian football community.
