Spirit of St Louis wins West Point Stakes at Saratoga
Spirit of St Louis, a 7-year-old Medaglia d’Oro gelding, won the $200,000 West Point Stakes at Saratoga Race Course. The victory, achieved on a 1 1/16-mile turf route for New York-breds, allowed the dual Grade 1 winner to surpass $2 million in career earnings.
Trained by Chad Brown for Madaket Stables, Michael Dubb, and Richard Schermerhorn, the horse had previously finished second in this specific race in both 2023 and 2024. Jockey Manny Franco provided what was described as a perfect trip to secure the $110,000 winner’s share of the purse.
Brown credited the horse's longevity and health to a dedicated support team, noting the significance of reaching the $2 million milestone after a career that included competing at various tracks and against open company.
