Spirit of Tasmania to introduce pet-friendly cabins on new vessels

Spirit of Tasmania is introducing pet-friendly accommodation on its two new vessels, Spirit of Tasmania IV and V, marking a significant upgrade to Bass Strait travel. The new ships will feature 18 pet-friendly cabins designed for cats and dogs, allowing up to two pets per cabin. Additionally, the vessels will include an outdoor pet deck and 45 climate-controlled kennels in a dedicated area equipped with CCTV and routine welfare checks.

The new vessels are scheduled to begin their inaugural passenger sailings on October 31, with Spirit of Tasmania IV departing from Geelong and Spirit of Tasmania V from Devonport. The ships offer expanded capacity, carrying an additional 470 passengers per sailing and more than triple the current caravan capacity.

Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff noted that the upgraded amenities reflect the desire for families to travel with pets. CEO Chris Carbone stated the ships are designed to showcase Tasmanian producers, materials, and artwork, including Huon Pine and Tasmanian Oak. Bookings for the new cabins open on September 16.
