Spirits market sees tequila price drops and shifting UK beverage trends
The spirits and beverage markets are experiencing notable shifts in consumer demand and pricing. In the United States, tequila has seen a price decline, with the Tequila 50 index falling 1.30% in the latest seven-day window. Cazadores Reposado recorded the largest price drop, while Nikka Coffey Gin saw gains. Analysts suggest these movements are driven by selective promotions and retailer repricing rather than a sudden drop in demand.
In the United Kingdom, the hospitality sector is seeing divergent trends. Distillate sales in British pubs and bars experienced a sharp decline, dropping 16.5% year-on-year in a single week ending September 12. This contrasts with growth in other categories; beer sales rose between 5.7% and 8.4%, and cider saw increases of 7.3% to 13.3%. This shift toward lighter, refreshing drinks is attributed to favorable weather and major football schedules.
Additionally, fruit-flavored beers are gaining traction in the UK market. Industry experts are currently debating whether this trend represents a permanent shift in consumer habits or a short-lived fad, which will ultimately influence how distributors and pubs manage their inventory and investments.
