Spiro and ESP launch e-mobility programme for African women
Electric mobility company Spiro and Entrepreneurial Solutions Partners (ESP) have introduced the ‘Women in E-Mobility’ programme, aiming to help 5,000 African women establish electric motorcycle businesses by 2030.
The initiative has commenced in Rwanda with an initial cohort of 50 women. The pilot phase in Rwanda intends to reach 500 participants before expanding into other markets where Spiro operates. The programme is designed to address the underrepresentation of women in the transport sector, where they currently account for only 4% of workers in Rwanda.
The programme follows a three-stage model: training, motorcycle access, and business development. Participants receive instruction in safe riding, road regulations, financial management, digital tools, and entrepreneurship. To facilitate business ownership, participants can access electric motorcycles through lease-to-own arrangements and utilize Spiro’s battery-swapping network. Additionally, the programme connects riders with ride-hailing, delivery, and logistics platforms to ensure access to steady commercial work.
