Spišská Nová Ves railway worker thwarts robbery attempt on elderly woman

A 21-year-old man was arrested following an attempted robbery of an 83-year-old woman at the Spišská Nová Ves railway station in Slovakia. The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, October 15.

According to police spokesperson Jana Illésová, the suspect had been loitering in the station vestibule and targeted the elderly woman, assuming her age would prevent her from defending herself. The man attempted to snatch her wallet from her bag, but a vigilant railway worker noticed the suspicious behavior and intervened when the woman began to scream. The worker successfully prevented the suspect from fleeing.

The woman was able to recover her wallet and all its contents without injury. Railway police detained the suspect, and the criminal police department in Spišská Nová Ves has since charged the man with theft. Authorities noted that the suspect had been penalized for similar offenses twice within the previous 12 months.
