Spišská Stará Ves school attack trial reaches closing arguments

The trial regarding the fatal attack at a high school in Spišská Stará Ves has reached its closing arguments. The prosecutor and the victims' representative have both requested a life sentence for the defendant, Samuel S., who is accused of the premeditated murder of two people.

The defense has proposed a 15-year prison sentence with medium-security supervision, citing the defendant's age, his expressed remorse, and his potential for rehabilitation. Samuel S. argued during the proceedings that he is not a dangerous person and that his actions were the result of enduring long-term injustice.

The attack occurred on January 16, when the defendant entered the school armed with a 19-centimeter tactical knife. He first targeted the deputy principal, Mária Semančíková, in the school office before moving to the upper floors. The court is expected to deliver its verdict on Wednesday, September 30.
