Splatsin te Secwépemc Rail Trail explores Trans Canada Trail connection
Owners of the Splatsin te Secwépemc/North Okanagan-Shuswap Rail Trail are exploring a connection to the Trans Canada Trail system. During an October 15 board meeting, Columbia Shuswap Regional District chair Natalya Melnychuk shared plans to join the national network, noting that the move would provide national recognition and access to new grant opportunities without adding extra administrative burdens.
Local officials reported that approximately 30,000 people used the rail trail this summer. Derek Sutherland, general manager of community and protective services, noted that the high volume of users has positively impacted local businesses along the corridor.
The technical operational committee overseeing the project includes Splatsin te Secwépemc, the Regional District of the North Okanagan (RDNO), and the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD), with support from the Shuswap Trail Alliance.
