Split anti-fascists commemorate 1941 executions
The Association of Anti-Fascists and Anti-Fascist Fighters of the City of Split is holding a commemoration to honor twenty-four prisoners executed on August 26, 1941, in Ruduša. The group executed by the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) included twenty-one fighters from the First Split Partisan Detachment, two from the First Solin Partisan Detachment, and one local farmer.
In a statement, the association emphasized that the commemoration is more than a mere protocol or a moment of silence. They called for a firm stance against the negation of the criminal nature of the NDH and criticized attempts to relativize its crimes or use its symbols as expressions of patriotism. The association highlighted the bravery of the young fighters, some as young as 19, who resisted fascism.
