Split City Council debates nightlife regulations in historic center

The Split City Council held a contentious thematic session regarding the regulation of nightlife in the historic city center. While a proposal by the Centar party to restrict alcohol service hours in nightclubs to match those of cafes and restaurants was rejected, the council adopted four other conclusions aimed at addressing resident concerns.

The adopted measures include initiatives for the legal regulation of 'pub crawls,' the relocation of party boats away from the old city center, and efforts to initiate legislative changes that could restrict or prohibit the opening of new nightclubs in residential and mixed-use buildings.

The session was marked by political friction, including accusations of conflicts of interest against Mayor Tomislav Šuta and debates over the unequal treatment of different hospitality sectors. Council members also discussed the potential introduction of a 'tourist police' service to better maintain order during peak seasons.
