Split court sentences man for threatening journalist

A municipal court in Split has sentenced a 57-year-old man to six months in prison, suspended for three years, for threatening journalist Siniša Vuković. The incident occurred on May 7 at the Split Riva, where the individual allegedly insulted the journalist and approached him with a hoe.

In a separate case, the Split Municipal State Attorney's Office is investigating a man born in 1997 for allegedly posting a collage of photos featuring eleven journalists and a political analyst on social media, accompanied by a direct threat. Prosecutors suggested detention for the suspect due to the risk of recidivism. The post was reportedly linked to dissatisfaction with media coverage regarding local events and the detention of certain football supporters.

Police data indicates a rise in incidents targeting media workers. In 2024, 16 criminal acts were recorded against 14 journalists. In 2025, 29 criminal acts were recorded against 29 individuals. So far in 2026, police have documented approximately 20 suspected incidents, most of which involve threats.
