Split cultural workers threaten strike over pay, risking Split Summer festival
The Croatian Union of Cultural Workers (HSDK) warned that it will call a strike in the city’s cultural institutions on Thursday if the mediation with the City of Split does not produce a salary increase. Union secretary Domagoj Rebić said cultural employees have been left out of recent wage raises given to other municipal staff and are demanding equal pay.
Mayor Tomislav Šuta said talks are ongoing and the city must respect fiscal limits while seeking a solution. He acknowledged that a strike could disrupt the Split Summer program, which is organised by the Croatian National Theatre Split, but expressed confidence that an agreement can be reached before the tourist season begins.
