Split-Dalmatia County to build four elderly care centers

Split-Dalmatia County is developing four new centers for elderly people to address a shortage of care capacities and the needs of a growing aging population. The planned locations are Dragljane, Aržan, Vrlica, and Šolta.

These projects aim to provide 377 new accommodation places and extra-institutional services for at least 502 additional users. The initiative specifically targets areas like Dalmatian Zagora, where services have historically been concentrated in urban centers, leaving rural and island populations with limited access to care.

The first center, located in Dragljane within the Vrgorac area, is scheduled for completion by October 30, 2026. The strategic goal is to allow elderly residents to receive support close to their homes, families, and familiar environments, thereby preserving social ties and supporting their ability to remain in their own homes.
