Split Mayor announces major urban development projects
Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta has announced several major urban development projects aimed at reshaping the city. Key initiatives include the final stages of a project in Duilovo, which will follow a development model similar to Žnjan and include a new port.
Other planned works involve the renovation of the Kopilica area, with an architectural competition expected in a few months. The city is also working on urban plans for the Eastern Coast, the Stari plac area, and the creation of an archaeological park and green space around the Turkish Tower.
Regarding healthcare infrastructure, Šuta suggested the shipyard (škver) area as a potential location for a new hospital, noting that the government has initiated proceedings to terminate the current concession.
Additionally, the Mayor addressed controversies surrounding the selection committee for a public sculpture of Pope John Paul II. He stated he was unaware of the past involvement of a committee advisor in a controversial mass for Ante Pavelić and indicated that a change in committee membership would be pursued.
