Split moves to curb nightly drunken tourism and revamps Žnjan promenade

Mayor Tomislav Šuta said the opposition should stay silent as he presented new legal proposals to tighten control over nightlife in Split. The city plans amendments to the Trade Law and the Hospitality Law, extends municipal guard duty to 4 a.m., and strengthens cooperation with police, security firms and the State Inspectorate. Measures also include a longer‑term destination management plan that would limit new fast‑food outlets and discotheques.

At the same time, the city’s Žnjan beach area has been fully re‑vegetated. Dried soil was replaced with fresh grass, young pine trees and fragrant lavender, while new irrigation sprinklers were installed. The makeover aims to improve the environment for locals and visitors who use the popular promenade for exercise, walks and sunset viewing.
