Split prosecutors indict former Croatian pilot for espionage

The County State Attorney's Office in Split has filed an indictment against a former Croatian Air Force pilot and his Serbian partner for espionage.

The indictment alleges that between February and December 2022, the Croatian citizen used his official position within the Armed Forces to provide classified data to the second defendant. It is alleged that the pilot knew the partner was collecting this information for a foreign state, legal entity, or person, who then forwarded the data to multiple foreign addresses.

The investigation suggests the pair exchanged messages via WhatsApp. The pilot had previously served in Kosovo as part of the Croatian contingent (HRVCON) under NATO's KFOR mission. The prosecution has requested an extension of precautionary measures for the female defendant due to a flight risk.
