Spodek arena in Katowice to undergo LED lighting upgrade and cable overhaul

Katowice announced a modernization project for the main hall of the Spodek arena. The work will replace existing metal‑halogen fixtures with more than 700 new LED luminaires covering sport, event and emergency lighting. Over six kilometres of new power, control and fibre‑optic cables will be installed to support the upgraded system, which must also meet television‑broadcast requirements.

The city issued a tender with proposals due by 7 August; the selected contractor will have seven months to complete the works. The project follows a 2025 investment of over 9 million zł that refurbished the arena’s floor and audience areas. Mayor Marcin Krupa and investment director Jarosław Łuczyński highlighted the upgrade’s role in supporting a wide range of sports, from volleyball to figure skating, and improving the spectator experience.
