SpoGOMI Koshien 2026 regional competitions held in Fukuoka and Shizuoka

The SpoGOMI Koshien 2026 regional competitions were held in Fukuoka and Shizuoka, featuring high school students competing in organized litter-picking contests. The events, organized by the Nippon Foundation SpoGOMI Federation, aim to raise awareness about the connection between land-based waste and marine pollution.

In the Fukuoka Prefecture tournament held at Tenjin Chuo Park, the team ‘Higashi Busters’ from Higashi Fukuoka High School secured first place, collecting 10.40kg of waste. A total of 72.36kg of trash was collected by 31 participating teams. Despite rain during the competition, the event proceeded with a shortened 50-minute timeframe.

The Shizuoka Prefecture tournament took place at Tokiwa Park, where the team ‘Densetsu no Gomi’ from Shizuoka Prefectural Science and Technology High School won with 11.09kg of waste. A total of 54.88kg was collected across 11 teams. Due to weather concerns, the competition time was reduced to 45 minutes.

Winning teams from these regional qualifiers will advance to the national championship to compete for the title of Japan's top high school SpoGOMI team.
