The supplement, administered via IV or nebulizer, has been offered to Western wildland firefighters by The Integrative Health Action Network to combat toxic chemical exposure. However, the International Association of Firefighters cautioned that glutathione is not an FDA-approved drug and lacks proven safety or efficacy. Concerns have been raised regarding potential bacterial contamination, following recent pharmacy recalls that linked the supplement to symptoms such as fever and severe headaches.
