Spoleto Mayor Andrea Sisti targeted by digital identity theft

The Municipality of Spoleto has filed a formal complaint with the Postal Police following the emergence of a fraudulent Facebook profile impersonating Mayor Andrea Sisti. The legal office has characterized the incident as “digital identity theft.”

The fake account, which appeared around July 21, uses the name “Andréa Sisti Sindaco” (notably using an accented ‘é’) and operates as a private profile. This distinguishes it from the Mayor’s authentic public page, which is identified by the handle @andreasistisindaco.

Authorities report that the fraudulent profile has been sending numerous friend requests to users. While it is currently unclear if the account is being used to solicit crimes through direct messaging, the Municipality has issued an urgent warning to citizens. Residents are advised not to accept requests from the fake profile, avoid all interaction, and refrain from sharing the account, instead using Facebook’s reporting tools to flag the profile.
