Sport Club do Recife sanctioned with closed-door matches

The Superior Tribunal de Justiça Desportiva (STJD) has sanctioned Sport Club do Recife following crowd disturbances during a match against CRB on September 15. The club has been ordered to play two matches behind closed doors and faces a fine of approximately R$ 40,000 to R$ 50,000.

According to the STJD, the incident involved members of Sport's primary organized supporter group invading the separation area and clashing with police. The report also noted that objects, including cups and footwear, were thrown onto the pitch. CRB was also fined R$ 40,000 for failure to prevent disorder and for the involvement of its own supporters in the confrontation.

Sport intends to appeal the decision. If the penalty stands, the club will be forced to play its upcoming matches against São Bernardo and Fortaleza without home fans during a critical stage of the Série B season.
