FC Porto advances to League Cup semifinals via Santiago Giménez goal
FC Porto secured a place in the Taça da Liga Final Four after a 1-0 victory over Académico de Viseu at the Estádio do Dragão. The decisive moment came in the 45th minute when Santiago Giménez converted a penalty, marking his first goal at the stadium and his second overall for the club.
The penalty decision, awarded following a handball by Hugo Gambor, was highly contested by Académico de Viseu. Despite the controversy, Giménez successfully beat goalkeeper Juan Soriano to provide the winning margin. The match saw significant rotations from Porto coach Francesco Farioli, who handed Giménez his first start of the season.
Académico de Viseu remained competitive throughout the second half, particularly after tactical changes by manager Bruno Pinheiro, but were unable to find an equalizer. Porto will now face the winner of the match between Benfica and Gil Vicente in the semifinals.
