Sporting CP faces scrutiny over leadership and player conduct
Former Sporting coach Augusto Inácio has defended current manager Rui Borges against calls for dismissal, suggesting that the club's recent struggles are not solely the responsibility of the coach. Inácio noted that the squad has undergone significant remodeling and that the administration, led by Frederico Varandas, shares responsibility for the current situation.
Inácio specifically criticized the conduct of Luis Suárez, describing him as acting as if he is “the owner of everything,” noting his frequent protests with referees, teammates, and opponents. He warned that an upcoming match against Braga will be a decisive moment for the team.
Separately, recent market valuations highlight the high economic value of players in the Portuguese league. Sporting's Luis Suárez is valued at €62.9 million, while FC Porto's Victor Froholdt leads the list of top players outside the ‘Big Five’ leagues with a valuation of €83.7 million. Benfica's Vangelis Pavlidis follows with a value of €65 million.
