Sporting CP official clarifies João Palhinha transfer interest

Sporting CP official Frederico Varandas has confirmed that the club expressed interest in signing João Palhinha during the early transfer window in late June. However, the player reportedly prioritized staying in England with Tottenham at that time.

Varandas stated that even if the player had pursued a move to Sporting, the club would not have met the high salary demands required. He emphasized that investing tens of millions of euros in a 31-year-old player does not align with the club’s current sporting project or financial strategy.

While Palhinha remains a Bayern Munich player, reports suggest he is currently close to reaching an agreement with Benfica. Varandas also addressed other club matters, including the status of player Pote and the club's ongoing financial stability.
