Portuguese football transfer market closes with reduced spending

The Portuguese summer transfer market has concluded, revealing divergent strategies among the country’s top football clubs. Total spending by the big three—Sporting CP, FC Porto, and SL Benfica—decreased by approximately 35% compared to the previous season, falling to around €215 million from over €330 million.

Sporting CP was the most active, investing over €123 million in new players while also generating significant revenue through sales, including over €150 million from departures such as Hjulmand, Trincão, and Diomande. In contrast, FC Porto and Benfica maintained more conservative or balanced approaches.

Final registrations included Sotiris Alexandropoulos at Sporting and Ryan Gobbi at FC Porto. The market closure coincides with the start of the fifth round of the Portuguese League, featuring matchups such as Porto against Moreirense and Benfica against Marítimo.
