Julio César Uribe assaulted by Sporting Cristal fans
Julio César Uribe, the General Director of Football for Sporting Cristal, was physically assaulted by a group of fans outside the Alberto Gallardo Stadium following a team training session. The incident occurred amid rising tensions caused by the club's recent poor performance in the Peruvian championship, including a loss to Sport Boys.
Sporting Cristal issued a formal statement condemning the violence and confirmed that the aggressors have been identified. The club announced it will pursue legal action against those involved through the Ministerio Público. While the club acknowledged that fan criticism is a legitimate part of football, they emphasized that intimidation and violence are unacceptable.
In a subsequent press conference, Uribe addressed the attack, stating that while he understands the fans' frustration and offered apologies for the team's recent results, he does not accept physical aggression. Despite rumors regarding his departure, Uribe confirmed he has no intention of resigning, expressing his lifelong commitment to the club and his desire to continue working to improve the team's performance.
