Sao Tome and Principe referees strike over unpaid subsidies
The 21st round of the First Division in Sao Tome and Principe has been completely cancelled following a strike by referees. The officials are protesting the non-payment of subsidies that have been outstanding for several months.
The strike has halted the national championship during a decisive phase, with only two matchdays remaining in the season. The Sao Tome and Principe Football Federation (FSF) and the Arbitration Commission are facing intense scrutiny regarding the management of national football competitions.
This follows reports of alleged pressure placed on international referees during recent cup semi-finals, where officials were reportedly warned that refusing appointments could lead to communications with FIFA.
