Sporting names Sergi Altimira top preseason signing as youth winger Tiago Rodrigues joins first team

Sporting Clube de Portugal’s recent preseason analysis highlighted Spanish midfielder Sergi Altimira as the most impactful new signing, according to club commentator Afonso Pinto Coelho. Coelho praised Altimira’s performances in the Troféu Cinco Violinos tournament and noted the need for prudence until the official season begins.

In a separate announcement, Sporting promoted 18‑year‑old winger Tiago Rodrigues, known as Tiaguinho, to the senior squad for the 2026/27 campaign. Rodrigues had recorded 26 matches and 38 goals for the under‑19 side and scored four goals in four league appearances during the 2025/26 season. He expressed pride in joining the first team and aims to prove his value.

Coelho also raised concerns about the departure of several key players, including Morten Hjulmand, Francisco Trincão, Pote and Diomande, emphasizing the club’s reliance on successful integration of new recruits.
