Sporting set to add Italian midfielder Issa Doumbia

Italian 22‑year‑old midfielder Issa Doumbia, currently on the books of Serie B side Venezia, has completed his medicals and is expected to sign for Portuguese champions Sporting CP. Former Sporting midfielder De Franceschi praised Doumbia’s physicality, technique and potential impact, saying the player “will create impact” and could help the club compete domestically and in the Champions League.

De Franceschi, who now works as a scout and plays padel, also discussed his post‑football activities, noting recent events with ex‑Serie A stars such as Alessandro Del Piero. While Doumbia’s transfer is not yet official, the club’s scouting department is confident the signing represents a strong investment for the upcoming season.
