Lega Serie A suspends signal to Albanian broadcaster Tring

Lega Serie A has suspended the supply of television signals to Tring, an Albanian broadcaster, due to territorial exclusivity violations. While Tring is a legal entity that pays approximately 4 million euros annually for the rights to broadcast Serie A and Coppa Italia within Albania, its signal has been accessible in Italy without the need for a VPN.

This technical anomaly has allowed Italian viewers to access a massive sports package—including Serie A, Champions League, Bundesliga, NBA, and MotoGP—for roughly 250 euros per year, significantly lower than domestic subscription costs. The Lega Serie A maintains that the current contract strictly prohibits signal overspill into Italy and requires OTT signal geolocation to be restricted to Albania.

Tring, controlled by Vertex Holding, recently expanded its market position by unifying its catalog with rival DigitAlb. The broadcaster has suggested that the lack of signal blocking was intended to reach the large Albanian diaspora living abroad, but the Lega requires sufficient guarantees that the platform can prevent Italian access before restoring the signal.
