Sports club investment reaches 100 billion euros
Investment in sports clubs has reached 100 billion euros over the last two years, according to a report by the Italian Football Federation. In 2025, 356 acquisitions were recorded totaling nearly 48 billion euros, while 215 acquisitions in 2026 to date have reached an estimated 58.3 billion euros.
Sports has become the third largest entertainment industry globally, trailing only video games and television/streaming. Football has significantly surpassed the music industry, with revenues already doubling that sector. The sports sector is growing at an annual rate of 6%, nearly twice the rate of the global economy. Total revenues generated by sports brand owners grew by 50% between 2015 and 2025, reaching 160 billion euros last year. Projections suggest a potential turnover of 229 billion euros by 2033, with an expected annual growth rate of approximately 5%.
