Sports events underway in Saudi Arabia for Special Olympics and Yemen football team

In Riyadh, the Special Olympics Saudi Arabia 2026 national competitions for swimming and physical strength have commenced at the Mahd Sports Academy. The event features 70 athletes representing 13 disability and Special Olympics clubs from various regions, including Al-Jouf, Qassim, Jazan, Riyadh, Al-Rass, Al-Ahsa, and Asir. The program includes medical screenings covering mental health, vision, dentistry, and general health awareness, alongside interactive activities for the participants' families.

Meanwhile, in Jeddah, the Yemen national football team has begun its external training camp in preparation for the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup. Led by coach Nour El-Din Ould Ali, the team is focusing on physical conditioning following their initial preparations in Aden. The Yemeni squad is scheduled to play a friendly match against Kuwait on September 18. They are set to compete in Group B against the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain during the tournament, which will be hosted in Jeddah from September 23 to October 6, 2026.
