Sports facility rehabilitation projects face bidding challenges in Ecuador and Panama
Sports infrastructure projects in Ecuador and Panama are facing administrative hurdles. In Cuenca, Ecuador, the Federación Deportiva del Azuay has launched a second bidding process to rehabilitate the El Batán Olympic swimming pool. The previous attempt in June was declared void. The new project has a total budget of approximately USD 300,272, with the primary investment focused on replacing the entire roof and installing structural steel. A winner is expected to be announced on October 12.
In Panama, the General Directorate of Public Contracting (DGCP) has suspended the bidding process for the remodeling, expansion, and equipment of the Albrook swimming pool. The suspension, valued at approximately 7.6 million balboas, was triggered by errors in the bidding documents provided by Pandeportes. Key issues identified by the DGCP include incorrect structuring of experience criteria and discrepancies regarding how consortium experience is accredited. Pandeportes has been ordered to implement necessary corrections to the documents.
