Sports injuries rise amid increased running and weightlifting activity in Brazil

The number of official running events in Brazil has seen significant growth, increasing by 85% in 2025 from 2,827 to 5,241 events according to ABRACEO. However, this rise in physical activity is accompanied by an increase in musculoskeletal injuries among amateur athletes.

Common injuries include tendinitis, sprains, muscle strains, and knee, shoulder, or spinal pain. These issues are often linked to excessive training loads, improper movement execution, lack of physical preparation, or premature return to training after injury. Experts suggest that ignoring persistent pain or rapidly increasing training intensity can lead to long-term issues.

To mitigate these risks and achieve sustainable performance, specialists emphasize the importance of individualized assessment, biomechanical alignment, and medical support. Key preventative measures include metabolic and hormonal exams, precise body composition analysis, and structured training periodization to avoid chronic fatigue and stagnation.
