Table Tennis Federation of India suspended by Sports Ministry

The Indian Sports Ministry has suspended its recognition of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), citing governance deficiencies and the failure to conduct elections on time. The decision follows an unsatisfactory response from the federation to a previously issued show-cause notice.

As a result of the suspension, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has been directed to establish an internal regulatory mechanism to manage the sport. In consultation with the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), the IOA will form an ad-hoc committee to oversee table tennis affairs until a properly constituted governance structure is restored within the TTFI.

The federation has faced recent instability, including a legal dispute involving the suspension of Secretary General Kamlesh Mehta and public criticism from star player Manika Batra regarding selection processes for the Asian Games.
