Luis Abinader inaugurates major educational and sports complexes in Dominican Republic
President Luis Abinader has led a series of government initiatives in the Dominican Republic focused on education, infrastructure, and public integrity. A major highlight is the inauguration of the Pedro Martínez Educational and Sports Complex in Manoguayabo. Developed through a public-private partnership between the government and the Pedro Martínez Foundation, the project involved an investment exceeding RD$950 million. The complex includes the Paulino Jaime Abreu Basic School, the José Cheché Abreu Vargas Polytechnic, a baseball stadium, a gymnasium, and a museum, aiming to serve thousands of students and athletes.
Additionally, the President inaugurated the Minerva Guzmán Educational Center in Pedro Brand, providing 23 classrooms for 960 students. In Santo Domingo, new primary schools were opened in Cancino Adentro and Los Guaricanos to meet growing educational demands.
On the governance front, Abinader received an integrity study from the OECD, aimed at strengthening public institutions and transparency. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED) reported a 93% increase in construction licenses issued between January and September, part of an effort to reduce permit processing times to 30 days. The Ministry of Sports also announced the 2026 University Sports Games, featuring over 2,300 athletes across 16 disciplines.
