Miami rises to No. 1 in AP Poll following historic week of upsets
A historic wave of upsets in Week 7 of the college football season has caused a massive shakeup in the national rankings. For the first time in the 90-year history of the Associated Press poll, five of the top seven teams lost in a single week.
Miami has ascended to the No. 1 spot in both the AP and Coaches Polls following an undefeated start and a double-overtime victory against Florida State. BYU has also seen a significant rise, moving to No. 2 in the AP Poll after defeating No. 2 Notre Dame, marking its highest ranking since its 1984 championship season. Ohio State follows in the top three.
Several major programs suffered significant losses: No. 1 Georgia fell to No. 5 after losing to unranked Auburn; No. 2 Notre Dame dropped to No. 4; No. 6 Alabama fell to No. 13; and No. 7 Texas dropped out of the top 10 entirely, landing at No. 19 after a loss to Florida. The chaos has fundamentally altered the landscape for the College Football Playoff seeding.
