Sports Writers Association of Nigeria holds congress in Kaduna

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) held its Triennial National Delegates Congress in Kaduna, focusing on both infrastructure development and administrative reforms in Nigerian sports.

During the congress, SWAN officials inspected major facilities in Kaduna state, including the Uba Sani Township Stadium and the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. The latter is undergoing reconstruction and is expected to have a seating capacity of approximately 32,000. State officials noted that the stadium project aims to serve as an economic and tourism hub beyond its traditional use for football.

In a 16-point communiqué released following the congress, SWAN called for its inclusion in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Normalisation Committee following the resignation of the federation’s leadership. The association also requested the reinstatement of its seats on the NFF Electoral College and Executive Committee to promote accountability.

Additional demands included the immediate constitution of the 17-member Governing Board of the National Sports Commission and urgent restructuring of women’s football following the Super Falcons’ absence from the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
