Spotify faces separate phishing warnings and legal setbacks

Spotify is currently the target of two distinct issues involving fraudulent activity. A new phishing wave is targeting users with emails claiming their Premium subscriptions have been paused due to payment issues or expired credit cards. These fraudulent messages use high-pressure tactics, threatening the loss of Premium status to trick users into clicking links and revealing banking or login credentials. A notable indicator of these scams is inconsistent language, such as switching between formal and informal addresses.

In a separate legal matter, a US judge has dismissed a class-action lawsuit against Spotify. The lawsuit alleged that the streaming giant knowingly permitted billions of fraudulent streams for the artist Drake, which allegedly diverted funds from other artists through the platform’s stream-share compensation model. The judge ruled that the plaintiff, rapper RBX, failed to prove that Spotify had a specific legal duty to the claimant or that the alleged damages met the requirements for a negligence claim.
