Spotify launches AI-powered Taste Profile in the US
Spotify has begun rolling out a new feature called ‘Taste Profile’ to Premium subscribers in the United States. This tool allows users to view and adjust how the platform’s algorithm interprets their preferences across music, podcasts, and audiobooks.
Utilizing artificial intelligence, the feature enables users to provide natural language commands to increase or decrease the frequency of specific genres, artists, or sonic atmospheres. This functionality aims to address common streaming issues, such as repetitive recommendations or unwanted influences from shared accounts, such as sleep tracks or children's content.
To use the tool, users navigate to their profile picture and enter instructions in the ‘Tell us more’ field. While changes are not instantaneous, the updated preferences will reflect in the main feed, ‘Discover Weekly’, ‘Made For You’ sections, and ‘Spotify Wrapped’ within a few hours. The feature was previously tested in beta in New Zealand and was first announced by co-CEO Gustav Söderström at SXSW.
