Spotify expands audiobook service to over 180 global markets
Spotify is executing a massive global expansion of its audiobook service, aiming to grow from 22 markets to over 180 by the end of 2026. This move positions the streaming giant as a direct competitor to specialized services like Amazon’s Audible.
The expanded catalog is expected to feature more than 350,000 titles across 120 languages. To support this, Spotify has established non-exclusive partnerships with over 300 international publishers, including major names like Mondadori and Planeta.
Subscription models vary by region. In several markets, including Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Poland, Chile, Italy, and Spain, Premium subscribers will receive 12 hours of monthly listening at no additional cost. For those requiring more content, an ‘Audiobooks+’ add-on is available, offering 15 additional hours per month. In other regions, such as parts of Asia and Africa, the service may primarily be accessed through the Audiobooks+ model or individual title purchases.
Technological updates accompany the rollout, notably the ‘Page Match’ feature. This tool allows users to synchronize their experience between physical books and digital audio by scanning an ISBN barcode, making it easier to transition between reading and listening.
