Spotify launches podcast Memberships in 34 markets

Spotify has introduced Memberships, a new monetization feature that allows podcast creators to offer paid subscriptions directly within the platform. Rolling out across 34 markets—including the US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, and Australia—the program enables creators to build recurring revenue streams by offering exclusive benefits.

Creators can design custom membership tiers with various perks, such as exclusive audio or video content, bonus episodes, early access to new releases, access to archives, and reduced advertising loads. To encourage adoption, Spotify has committed to letting eligible creators keep 90% of the membership revenue.

The service is available to both Free and Premium users, though these subscriptions are separate from standard Spotify Premium plans. The feature is specifically available to shows hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone. Early participating programs include 'Making Sense with Sam Harris', 'The Shawn Ryan Show', and 'The Adam Friedland Show'.
