Spotify removes 75 million AI‑generated tracks to curb fraud

Spotify deleted roughly 75 million songs created by artificial‑intelligence tools over the past year after discovering that bots were using them to inflate streaming counts and siphon royalty payments. The company now bans unauthorised voice‑cloning and requires that AI be used only as a creative aid, not as a means to generate fraudulent streams.

Deezer reported that, as of June 2026, more than half of all new tracks added daily – about 90 000 songs – are AI‑generated, highlighting the rapid growth of the technology. Tools such as Suno AI enable anyone to produce a complete song from a short text prompt, eliminating the need for traditional recording resources. Industry experts warn that unchecked AI music could cost creators billions of dollars in lost revenue, prompting streaming platforms to tighten policies and improve detection of low‑quality or deceptive content.
