Spotify to launch audiobook service in Poland
Spotify will expand its audiobook service to Poland starting October 15, as part of a global rollout reaching 180 countries. The platform will initially offer over 20,000 Polish-language titles.
Under the new model, Spotify Premium subscribers in Poland will receive 12 hours of audiobook listening time per month included in their current subscription. Users wishing to listen more can purchase an 'Audiobooks+' package for 17.99 PLN per month, providing an additional 15 hours. Individual audiobooks can also be purchased separately, an option available to Free, Premium, and Audiobooks+ users.
Industry experts note that while the entry of a major player like Spotify could drive market growth and attract new listeners to the Polish audiobook sector—valued at approximately 400 million PLN—it also presents challenges. Concerns have been raised regarding potential monopolistic practices and the need for transparent remuneration systems to protect authors and publishers. Distribution will involve partnerships with entities such as Legimi Content, and the initial catalog includes works from publishers like Zielona Sowa and Skarpa Warszawska.
