Spremberg hosts exhibition of archaeological finds from Haagfriedhof
An exhibition at the Bürgerhaus Spremberg is showcasing archaeological finds from the former Haagfriedhof cemetery. The artifacts were uncovered during excavations ahead of the construction of an extension for the Berufsorientierende Oberschule (BOS) school.
The cemetery, which was closed in 1840 due to overcrowding, served as a burial site for farmers, day laborers, and craftsmen, as well as soldiers from the Royal Prussian, Imperial Russian, and Imperial French armies. The exhibition was opened on September 11 to coincide with the 725th anniversary of the documented first mention of Spremberg/Grodk. The display, which includes selected items unearthed by the Archäologische Baubegleitung Cottbus GbR, will remain open to the public until early November 2026.
